The RollerCell is a self-contained, automated roller bottle processing
system.
The RollerCell is suitable for all current roller bottle applications in research laboratories and large scale manufacturing sites - including the production of Human and Animal vaccines, "clean cells" for fermenter culture, and recombinant proteins for therapeutic applications.
The RollerCell has been designed to automate all stages of roller bottle based tissue culture - from cell inoculation, incubation, media change and trypsinisation through to final harvest. It improves batch consistency and helps to optimise yields. A single RollerCell unit can process the equivalent of 200 standard roller bottle simultaneously, producing dramatic time-savings, leading to significant reductions in labour costs and the virtual elimination of handling related contamination.
The RollerCell consists of two main components, the RollerCell Bottle Packs and the RollerCell Processing Unit. Traditionally, tissue culture in roller bottles has been divided into two distinct phases - incubation and bottle processing. The incubation phase is carried out in incubators or hot rooms, using conventional roller apparatus, whilst bottle processing is carried out manually by skilled operators in laminar flow conditions - or by a robotic processor. The RollerCell replaces traditional roller apparatus and performs all the tasks previously undertaken manually or by robotic processors.
